Swiss Lathe Machining

Swiss lathe machining, also known as Swiss turning, is a CNC machining process that uses a special type of lathe to create small, intricate parts with high precision It can complete turning, milling, drilling, boring, tapping, engraving and other complex processing at the same time. It is mainly used for batch processing of precision hardware and special-shaped non-standard parts

The Swiss Lathe machine first originated in Switzerland and Germany. In the early days, it was mainly used for precision processing of military equipment. With the continuous development and expansion of the industrialization process, due to the urgent needs of the market, it is gradually used in the processing of civilian products. Similar machine tools in Japan and South Korea developed earlier than China. In the early days, they were mainly used in the military industry. After the war, with the development needs, they were gradually widely used in the manufacturing industry. Later, Taiwan, China introduced this technology and independently developed this type of equipment for different processing needs.

China's Swiss-type lathe manufacturing started late. Due to the closed technology and policy restrictions, before the 1990s, China's Swiss-type lathes mainly relied on imports to meet processing needs. With the continuous development of automation and the strong market demand, a large number of powerful CNC Swiss-type lathe manufacturers have emerged in the Chinese market. Among them, this series of machine tools are produced in coastal Guangdong, Nanjing, Jiangsu, Shandong, Liaoning, and Xi'an in the interior, and have achieved good market applications, filling the domestic gap.

Swiss-type lathes have made a qualitative leap in processing efficiency and processing accuracy compared to CNC lathes. Due to the use of double-axis tool arrangement, the processing cycle time is greatly reduced. By shortening the tool exchange time between the tool arrangement and the opposing tool station, the overlap function of multiple tool stations, the overlap function of the effective axis movement of threaded chip cutting, and the direct spindle indexing function during secondary processing, the idle time is shortened. The chip cutting tool has always been processed at the clamping position of the spindle and the workpiece, ensuring that the processing accuracy remains constant.

At present, the maximum processing diameter of Swiss-type lathes on the market is 38mm, which has great advantages in the precision shaft processing market. This series of machine tools can be equipped with an automatic feeding device to achieve fully automated production of a single machine tool, reducing labor costs and product defect rates. It is very suitable for mass production of precision shaft parts.
